Donate to Market Street Railway

Your generous financial support makes it possible for us to execute our nonprofit mission of preserving historic transit in San Francisco. You can learn more about our programs and initiatives here.

Market Street Railway is supported entirely by membership dues and donations, and receives no financial support from the San Francisco Municipal Railway or the City of San Francisco. All donations are tax-deductible, as provided by IRS section 501(c)(3). No gift is too small, and all donations directly support our programs and initiatives.

  1. Select whether or not you would like a complimentary one-year membership in Market Street Railway to be included with your donation (available with donations of $100 or more).
  2. Select the specific fund that you would like your donation to be applied to. (Learn more about our various funds below.)
  3. Click the "Donate" button and you will be taken to a secure PayPal checkout page, where you will specify the amount of your donation, and provide your payment information. (It is not necessary to have a PayPal account to use this system.)
  4. If you have any special requests for us (a dedication, or request for anonymity, non-solicitation, etc.), please use the "Special Instructions" box on the PayPal checkout page, or email your request to us at donations@streetcar.org.

Thank you for your generous support!

General Fund
This is the default fund which allows Market Street Railway to earmark your donation for whichever programs and initiatives need it most, and for the general operation of the organization.

Restoration Fund
This fund supports Market Street Railway's acquisition and restoration of additional historic streetcars, including our 1924 'Teaching Trolley' from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, which will become a classroom on rails where students and families learn about San Francisco's transit history.

Museum Fund
This fund covers the expenses involved in creating exhibits, conservation of artifacts, cataloguing of our archives, school outreach programs, and other museum-related activities.
